We refer to it as ‘the Alliance.’

The Alliance is a registered Australian company with provision for 50 shareholders, 48 of which have already been taken up.

The official logo is registered, all regulatory requirements are completed and it is a formally registered trademark (™).

What is its objective?

The Alliance was formed to provide a national organisation that delivers, for the first time, administrative and policy stability to the ITF membership in Australia.  It is about students, not power bases.

Who controls it?

Firstly I will explain who does not control it:

No … it is not controlled by one person

No … it is not controlled by one senior rank

No … it is not controlled by someone because of his or her international position

Yes … it is controlled by its membership

Yes … all shareholders have a say in who is the CEO

Yes … all shareholders have a say who is to be their executive committee

Yes … anyone can hold any of these positions, regardless of rank

Yes … administrative and other skills are recognised and utilised

Who will ‘OWN’ and CONTROL  my organisation?

The ASIC approved constitution of the Alliance is very clear.

Under this constitution the Alliance does not do any of the following:

• It does not interfere in how an organisation runs itself.  The organisations that have already joined the Alliance have invested their own money, time and caring to grow to what they have now (long before the Alliance had even been formed).  We give these organisations a national umbrella organisation to support them, to which they can belong without fear of being taken over or told they have to join a particular school.

• Does not tell any organisation who they can or cannot associate with.  We live in a free world.  If an Alliance member organisation already belongs to other associations or organisations, that is their business.  The Alliance seeks to help its members, not dictate to them. If the Alliance does a good job in future years, its members will recognise this and make their decisions accordingly.

• Does not spend money without proper checks and controls. At the last AGM of the Alliance, a formal auditors report was presented and approved by the membership.  This is in stark contrast to what I discovered when I took over the Presidency of the Australian International Taekwon-Do Federation some years ago.

• Does not demand a share of revenue from member organisations.  Anyone joining the Alliance knows at the outset that current annual membership costs are only $200.

• Does not take all the proceeds from events.

Where to now?

I went to Benidorm, Spain and Quebec and was really pleased with what I saw.  That World body has good reason to be proud of what they have brought together.  Likewise, ITF NZ should be really proud of what they have achieved.

These successes were not achieved by one person, but rather by genuine teamwork.

I sat down with then Master Pablo Trajtenberg (now Grand Master) in Nambour, Australia and came away from the conversation thinking ‘with him at the helm, ITF is going to be a winner’.

My hope is that one day they will look at the Alliance and see an organisation that wants to be supportive.  The only thing preventing this at the moment is the communication conduit currently being used by the ITF.

Bai Rui Taekwon-Do provides a fun, family activity with an emphasis on self-defence, self-control and self-discipline. The Bai Rui school teaches genuine ITF Taekwon-do as taught by the founder of the art, General Choi Hong Hi.  We have clubs in Canberra, Sydney and South-East Queensland including Brisbane, the Lockyer Valley, the South Burnett and the Border Rivers areas making us one of the largest Taekwon-do schools in Australia.

We have classes catering to all ages from 6 and up.  This gives whole families the opportunity to participate in an activity together.

Senior ranks have the opportunity to participate in black belt classes which are held fortnightly under Master Charles Birch (7^th Degree Master).

For those students looking to push themselves – weekly squad classes are held in various regional areas.  These specialise in fitness and tournament training and are aimed towards the more active teenagers and adults, although all ages are welcome.

“Taekindy” classes at select locations provide Taekwon-do based fun for children 3 to 6 years old.

This activity allows younger students to participate in Taekwon-do and learn the basic etiquettes and techniques in a fun environment at a pace more suited to the younger child.

Every year, Bai Rui hosts two of the largest Taekwon-do tournaments in the country – open to all ages and ranks.

Students get the opportunity to learn and experience the full range of Taekwon-do events.

In addition to tournaments, testings, camps and seminars are held throughout the year.

The elite student has the opportunity to participate in international events.  In the past several years, the school has had students participating in tournaments in New Zealand, Canada and America.  Next year, a team will be attending the World Cup in England.  Students are limited only by their own expectations.

The Shinson Warriors demonstration team consists of some of the school’s top practitioners.  Applications for new members are periodically accepted from within the general student body.  This ensures that the level of skill within the team is second-to-none and allows every student an opportunity to aspire to be the best.

Within Bai Rui we have a saying – “We don’t keep up with the Joneses – we are the Joneses”.  Come and try a class and find out for yourself.

Brisbane North is fortunate to have a depth to their instructors and boasts one 6th Dan, three 5th Dans, one 3rd Dan and a significant number of 2nd and 1st Dans.  In 2010 Brisbane North has organised many successful events for the students outside of their regular  training.  These have included:

Dayboro Day

Each year Brisbane North participates in the Dayboro festivities .  The Shinson Warriors have participated in our demonstrations on the stage alongside our students as well as joining in the parade and manning our booth.

Beach Training

A full morning of training at Bribie Island followed by a picnic lunch.

Self Defence Seminar

An evening seminar for students. A segment was also provided to parents or partners to learn basic self defence techniques.

Demonstrations at various venues throughout the area.

The 2010 Bai Rui Taekwon-Do Gala was also hosted by Brisbane North.  The Gala theme was to dress as your favourite TV or Movie character.  Those that attended enjoyed  participating in a trivia segment and being entertained with live performances.
